DreamHost: Webserver Hardware Upgrades in US-West (Los Angeles) Datacenter – Beginning May 30th

On Monday, May 12th and continuing for two weeks, we will be performing webserver hardware upgrades on certain shared webservers and web VPS host machines in our US-West (Los Angeles) datacenter. This process is necessary to replace older hardware with newer and more efficient hardware. Customers affected by this move will be sent a notification email the week prior and an email when their move is complete with additional details on what changes may be necessary afterwards.

The following shared webservers will be affected:

DreamHost: DreamObjects Maintenance – May 28th 10AM PDT – 12PM PDT (2 hrs) (EXTENDED) (RESOLVED)

As part of our continued efforts to improve our cloud services, on Wednesday May 28th from 10am-12pm PDT, our Systems Engineering team will be performing maintenance on our DreamObjects service. During this maintenance window, you may intermittently experience slower upload and access speeds and some short periods of connectivity loss.

During this two hour maintenance window, we will be upgrading Ceph, the underlying storage technology powering DreamObjects. The upgrade includes improvements for large object support when using the OpenStack Swift API.

While we anticipate increased latency when storing or retrieving objects during this maintenance, please rest assured that your data is safe and will not be affected. We will closely monitor the maintenance and will be posting periodic updates.

Update May 28th, 2014, 2:37 PM PDT: During testing of the DreamObjects upgrade, we found a bug that forced us to abandon the upgrade and continue at a later date. Once the issue is resolved, we will schedule another upgrade window. We apologize for this, and thank you for your patience!”

Update May 28th, 2014, 12:55 PM PDT: We’re extending this maintenance window another 2 hours from the original estimate. We should be done at 2pm PDT. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
