GreenGeeks: Increased Performance & Reliability

What a summer! Upgrades galore!

One of the unique things about GreenGeeks web hosting is that we’re always looking for ways to provide our customers with the best possible hosting experience. This is what sets us apart from the competition. I’ve worked at other hosting providers where there were no advancements. It was boring and it really affected the customers’ chance of succeeding online. Not at GreenGeeks though, we’re always hungry for more. We’re always testing new hardware, new software, new security tools, etc. Anything that would benefit our customers.

While we’re always making advancements, this summer was particularly a busy one. We’ve enabled Dual PHP support, Google Apps integration, One-Click SSL activation’s and more.

The most notable upgrade was our hardware upgrades. We have upgraded all of our customers to the latest Intel Xeon processors, increased physical RAM on the servers and upgraded our storage array’s. What this means is increased performance and reliability for your websites and best of all, at no additional cost to you.

Have you noticed a difference in performance? Comment below!

DreamHost: Network Upgrade (West Coast Datacenter) – Redundant Internet Feed Upgrade – September 20th, 11am PDT (2 hrs) (POSTPONED)

This Thursday, September 20th, we will be installing an additional 10 gigabit internet feed in one of our our west-coast datacenters. This will further improve redundancy on our existing 10 gigabit lines. We are not anticipating any negative impact during the installation, as the primary network is not affected. After the install, you should be noticing improved speeds on some of your services.

Thank you for your continued patience while we further improve our network infrastructure.

Update: Monday September 24th 10:50am PDT:  Apologies for the lack of updates. This maintenance has been postponed, and we’ll post the new information as soon as we have it.

ixwebhosting: Mail3 Permanent Migration: Starting Saturday, September 15th – Resolved

On September 9th, a hard drive failed on mail3. We have these servers set up with multiple drives (in a RAID array) so that we can lose a drive without losing any data. We replaced this drive but the server could not complete the rebuild of the array. That meant that if we lost another drive, we would lose data and we definitely didn’t want that.

In order to keep this from happening, we relocated all data to a temporary server, while we created a permanent solution.

This Saturday, September 15th, starting at 1AM EDT, all accounts on mail3 will be moved to the new server, mail18. If your mail is currently running on mail3, you may need to change some settings in order to send, receive, or access your mail with us:

Firstly, if your DNS is hosted with us, we will automatically update your records for you, however you may experience momentary downtime. We expect that this should last no longer than 5 minutes, while our DNS servers update themselves.

That said, if you have domains that have their DNS hosted elsewhere, please change the following records accordingly:

  • MX record currently set to “mail3.ixwebhosting.com” should be changed to “mail18.ixwebhosting.com”
  • CNAME records for mail.DOMAIN.com currently set to “mail3.opentransfer.com” should be changed to “mail18.opentransfer.com”

Please let us know if you have any further questions about this, either through a ticket, phone call, chat, or message directly here on the blog! Have a great weekend!
